It all began at the age of 12, when my father had recently purchased an Audi 90 “D” Reg, 1990’s Era. My father being a fully trained electrician, was also deeply into his sound systems, videography and gadgets. One day we were driving down Stratford Road in Sparkhill, Birmingham and he spotted a new car audio shop, called ‘The Bass Bin’.
He pulled over, we went in and wow. I mean WOW. The shop was stocked to the brim with subwoofers, amplifiers, demo stands, equalizers and huge bass boxes. The shop keeper shouted across “Owite Mate, what was you after?”, my dad responded “Alright”, chuckled and said “we are just looking”. All the while I was thinking, yeah right, I’m pretty sure you’re going to buy something.
Hang on a moment, I have just had another flashback - it didn’t start off from the age of 12, that was a highlight, a good memory of our local car audio shop. In fact, it started off from...well when I was born, and a lot of the credit to what I know today goes to my father. Thanks Dad.
So a quick rundown of what where, when and how. My father used to have a “A Class” JVC 1600w Amplifier with “Mission” speakers that he used to blast when he was in a good mood. He had modified his car speakers and put an equaliser in there. He used to take me to auctions where they would sell electronics for pubs, clubs etc. We used to have a weekly visit to the markets, where he was always looking at electronics, speakers and amplifiers.
He would ask the right questions to understand what everything was and what was best for his requirements. So that’s how it all started, now let’s fast forward to when he bought the Audi and the car audio shop opening called the Bass Bin.
So as we were in the shop, he started to ask “So what speaker box do I need for a deep bass sound, like you know that sound that holds that deep reggae bass or the deep bhangra bass, you know?”
And…..To Be Continued.
